Stella Maris School is one of the best schools in Kunigal. Having completed 34 years, Stella is grateful to God for all his gracious blessings. First of all, let us know the true meaning of Stella Maris. It is originated from “Latin.” Stella means star, Maris means Ocean ” Star of the ocean ” is the true meaning. Today this school is grown to the extreme. It was started in 1990. We had placed a banner advertising near St. Ritas school and 40 applications were taken. Since we didn’t have the building ofourown, one room was taken for rent in the mission compound. During the day room was used for class and other than that it was a family use. Though 40 applications were taken we had only 3 admissions and they are Swapna, Sowmya and Raj. These three were the then Stella stars.
Thus started with three students now 1300 students, also we with joy announce that we have started 1st year PUC batch in science and commerce with 48 students in the year 2017-18. By the end of 1990-91 the school had 19 students and the teachers then ere together with the Principal, mt. Bhagya Mary and Theresa Pushpa, then joined Mr. Hrudayakumar.
The same year in 1990 August, 8th Thursday we had the inaugural function of the newly constructed building on the same day we had the engagement of our Principal and the Head Mistress in the morning and to our surprise after two years we had a good shower of rain in the afternoon. So the function which was supposed to be started at 4 pm took place at 6 pm. This new building was blessed by on dear Fr. J B Xavier, Fr. Baptist Menezes and Fr. Alphonse Naronha also Tahsildar Mr. Nagaraju was a witness to this function
Free education was given. After starting in the own building in order to give the effective education, introduced Rs.20 monthly fee and entrance fee Rs. 300. The school was recognized by the govt. as “Deevige Vidya Samsthe” Late.Asheervadappa has served for 34 years as the president of this institution. Now the school is under the guidance of our founder and Principal Sri. Sa Ra Dominic. In the beginning of LKG and UKG classes students had to sit on the floor and attend the classes.
Then came Mr. Jayaramaiah donated 50 benches and other equipment’s. Together with this help he with the lawyers took great trouble in 1994 to get the recognition of the school .Our sincere thanks to him.
The parents of our founder too have worked in building of this school. My father had taken active part in supervising the work of construction. He had planted 4 coconut trees but due to the new building had to cut down those trees.
We are proud to say that our Stella School is the first one to start the parents teachers meeting, through which we work to the progress of the student.
In the beginning of our school days there was much difficult to get the students for cultural programme. Then the principal and staff itself had to act out and entertain the students, parents and the public. Now as the days and years are passing Stella is becoming more effective and fantastic in arranging cultural programmes even national festivals.
